Memilih Arsitek memang bukanlah pekerjaan yang mudah, karena kualitas keprofesian para arsitek hanya bisa ditampilkan dari pengalaman dan pencapaian yang pernah diperolehnya. Untuk itu, masyarakat didorong untuk lebih bijaksana dalam menentukan arsitek mana yang tepat untuk menjalankan proyek yang hendak direalisasikan.
Pengenalan
Dalam proses awal, maka ada beberapa panduan ringkas yang bisa Anda jalankan sebagai tahap pengenalan akan tingkat kemampuan dan kualitas calon arsitek Anda:
- Arsitek Profesional IAI dilengkapi dengan Sertifikat Ke-Ahlian (SKA) yang diberikan dan diperpanjang dengan syarat-syarat yang ketat. SKA yang dikeluarkan oleh IAI tidak bisa dibeli sembarangan hanya karena uang, karena pada setiap pengajuannya setiap arsitek wajib memenuhi persyaratan-persyaratan yang sesuai dengan standar kompetensi Internasional.
- Anda dapat meminta contoh-contoh proyek yang pernah mereka tangani, dengan mengharapkan penjelasan yang lebih rinci tentang proyek-proyek itu secara mendetail untuk membuktikan keterlibatan mereka dan kesuksesan proyek tersebut.
- Anda dapat melakukan sayembara untuk mendapatkan hasil yang maksimal, karena sayembara itu sendiri memiliki persyaratan dan peraturan yang dapat disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan anda.
Pemilihan
Dalam proses memilih dan menyaring dari beberapa daftar calon arsitek, Anda dapat memberikan pertanyaan-pertanyaan dasar yang bisa memberikan Anda kepastian tentang komitmen sang calon arsitek dalam melihat prioritas proyek Anda dalam agenda kerjanya.
- Apa yang paling penting untuk dibahas dan dipertimbangkan dalam proyek Anda menurut sang Arsitek?
- Apa tantangan dari proyek ini?
- Bagaimana sang Arsitek akan mengumpulkan informasi mengenai proyek ini?

Penentuan
Dalam menentukan arsitek yang tepat bagi proyek Anda, maka Anda harus mempertimbangkan bahwa nilai biaya jasa yang paling murah bukanlah segalanya. Pekerjaan keprofesian arsitek adalah mengenai pemberian pelayanan yang paling maksimal sesuai dengan standar minimal keprofesian yang harus diberikan oleh sang Arsitek dalam proyek Anda.
Batas-batas pekerjaan arsitektur harus dibahas secara jelas pada awal perjanjian kerja sama agar terhindar kesalahpahaman profesi dan/atau kekeliruan spesifikasi pekerjaan.
